Double-headline tours are still on the rise: This Monday evening, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE and TRIVIUM will be performing at the Mitsubishi Electric Hall as part of their "The Poisoned Ascendancy Tour 2025". ORBIT CULTURE will be there as support.

It's been almost two years to the day since TRIVIUM, back then together with HEAVEN SHALL BURN, set off a fireworks display of metallic sounds at the same venue. This year there will be a reunion with the guys from Orlando, Florida, who are joining forces with BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE in 2025. The tour is named after the two albums that marked the breakthrough for both bands exactly 20 years ago, "The Poison" for BFMY, "Ascendancy" for TRIVIUM. Before the two main actors go on stage, ORBIT CULTURE opens the evening's line-up of bands. The Swedes offer a tasty mix of groove, thrash and melodic death metal, which is enthusiastically received in the hall. After a refreshing thirty-five minutes, Niklas Karlsson and his team leave the field, which is now prepared for the Welsh band BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE in splendid form

The setlist for this evening consists of the tracks from the debut album "The Poison", which is played in its entirety and in the sequence of the album - a treat that is only available in this form on the current tour. After the intro, things get going with "Her Voice Resides", the hall returns the energy emanating from the stage with a thousandfold intensity, which puts a smile on Matthew Tuck's face (today finally without a baseball cap) time and again. The assumption that the evening could be predictable due to the choice of songs is obvious, but with a view to the show, this can be relegated to the realm of fable, as the tracks are repeatedly enriched with unexpected twists and improvisations that were not expected. Added to this are the visual effects of the LED wall, which provide visual highlights and further enhance the power of the song material. It is no coincidence that the band's debut from 2005, celebrated on this evening, was exactly 20 years ago the band's worldwide breakthrough. Songs like "Tears Don't Fall" and "10 Years Today" show the full potential of the Welsh band, who have the hall at their feet towards the end of the show with "Cries In Vain" and "The End". The encore is a true triumph with "Knives" and the final "Waking The Demon".

TRIVIUM: Fresh start for “Ascendancy”

TRIVIUM, who on this evening will only play the tracks from their second album "Ascendancy", which laid the foundation for their success 20 years ago, will continue where their colleagues from BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE left off after a short reorganization. The hall is immediately back up to operating temperature during “Rain” and celebrates the men around Matthew Heafy, who dominates the show in his usual manner, while his fellow band members Alex Bent (drums), Paolo Gregoletto (bass) and Corey Beaulieu (guitar) are a little more reserved and leave the show to the boss.

About halfway through the gig, “A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation” features a great drum solo, which gives Alex Bent the opportunity to dominate the spotlight. The hall goes along with it enthusiastically and TRIVIUM also pleases with numerous new ideas that give the songs on the album a new lease of life, making the evening an unforgettable highlight. After “Declaration” it’s first a quick refreshment in the dressing room before TRIVIUM finally close the deal with “In Waves” and end the evening in splendid fashion.

Fast auf den Tag genau zwei Jahre ist es her, seit TRIVIUM, damals zusammen mit HEAVEN SHALL BURN an gleicher Stätte ein Feuerwerk in Sachen metallischer Klänge abgebrannt haben. In diesem Jahr gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit den Jungs aus Orlando, Florida, die Anno 2025 mit BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE paktieren. Namensgebend für die Tour sind die beiden Alben, die vor genau 20 Jahren den Durchbruch für beide Bands bedeuteten, „The Poison“ für BFMY, „Ascendancy“ für TRIVIUM. Bevor die beide Hauptakteure auf die Bühne gehen, eröffnen ORBIT CULTURE den Reigen der Bands des Abends. Die Schweden bieten einen schmackhaften Mix aus Groove-, Thrash- und Melodic Death-Metal, der in der Halle begeistert aufgenommen wird. Nach erfrischenden fünfunddreißig Minuten räumen Niklas Karlsson und seine Mannschaft das Feld, das nun für die Waliser BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE hergerichtet wird.

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE in prächtiger Form

Die Setlist an diesem Abend setzt sich aus den Tracks des Debütalbums „The Poison“ zusammen, das in kompletter Länge und in der Abfolge des Albums gespielt wird – ein Leckerbissen, den es in dieser Form nur auf der aktuellen Tour gibt. Nach dem Intro geht es mit „Her Voice Resides“ direkt voll zur Sache, die Halle gibt die Energie, die von der Bühne ausgeht, mit tausendfacher Intensität zurück, was Matthew Tuck (heute endlich einmal ohne Basecap) ein ums andere Mal ein Lächeln aufs Gesicht zaubert. Neben dem Frontmann greifen an diesem Abend Michael Paget (Gitarre), Jason Bowld (Bass), sowie Jamie Mathias (Schlagzeug) zu den Instrumenten.

Die Vermutung, dass der Abend aufgrund der Songauswahl berechenbar sein könnte, ist zwar naheliegend, kann aber mit Blick auf die Show ins Reich der Fabel verwiesen werden, da die Tracks immer wieder durch unerwartete Wendungen und Improvisationen um weitere Facetten bereichert werden, die so nicht zu erwarten waren, Hinzu kommen die visuellen Effekte der LED-Wand, die für optische Highlights sorgen und die Wucht des Songmaterials noch verstärken. Nicht von ungefähr verhalt das an diesem Abend zelebrierte Debüt aus dem Jahr 2005 der Band vor genau 20 Jahren zum weltweiten Durchbruch. Songs wie „Tears Don´t Fall“ oder „10 Years Today“ zeigen das gesamte Potenzial der Waliser, denen gegen Ende der Show mit „Cries In Vain“ und „The End“ die Halle zu Füßen liegt. Die Zugabe gleicht mit „Knives“ und dem finalen „Waking The Demon“ einem wahren Triumphzug.

TRIVIUM: Frischzellenkur für „Ascendancy“

TRIVIUM, die an diesem Abend ausschließlich die Titel ihres zweiten Albums „Ascendancy“ spielen, das vor 20 Jahren den Grundstein ihres Erfolgs legte, machen nach kurzem Umbau dort weiter, wo die Kollegen von BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE aufgehört haben. Die Halle ist bei „Rain“ sofort wieder auf Betriebstemperatur und feiert die Männer um Matthew Heafy, der in gewohnter Manier die Show bestimmt, während seine Mitschreiter Alex Bent (Schlagzeug), Paolo Gregoletto (Bass), sowie Corey Beaulieu (Gitarre) etwas zurückhaltender dem Chef die Show überlassen.

Etwa zur Hälfte des Gigs steht bei „A Gunshot To The Head Of Trepidation“ ein tolles Schlagzeugsolo auf dem Programm, das Alex Bent die Gelegenheit gibt, seinerseits das Rampenlicht zu dominieren. Die Halle geht begeistert mit und auch TRIVIUM gefallen mit zahlreichen, neuen Ideen, die den Songs des Albums eine Frischzellenkur verpassen, die den Abend zu einem unvergesslichen Highlight werden lassen. Nach „Declaration“ geht es zunächst für eine kurze Erfrischung in die Garderobe, bevor TRIVIUM mit „In Waves“ den Sack endgültig zumachen und den Abend in prächtiger Manier beschließen.
