ELECTRIC CALLBOY deliver the ultimate demolition between disco fox and metalcore in the sold-out LANXESS Arena Cologne. FUTURE PALACE and HOLDING ABSENCE impress in the supporting act.
Even before the show, the guys from Castrop-Rauxel had reason to celebrate: the organizer reported a sold-out crowd of 9,000, meaning the obligatory LANXESS ARENA award goes to ELECTRIC CALLBOY and underlines the current exceptional status of the band, which took its first steps in commercial entertainment over 13 years ago at city festivals and Euro pallets. Very few would have guessed back then how meteoric the rise to dizzying heights would be. The TEKKNO tour, which takes in 28 European cities, is almost completely sold out and marks the high point of their career so far. After the festival season, the tour will then travel via Great Britain, the USA and down under, a tour de force that certainly does not mark the end of the flagpole, especially in view of tonight, but more on that later.
FUTURE PALACE and HOLDING ABSENCE open splendidly
The evening begins, as befits a party of this size, with two interesting cheerleaders. FUTURE PALACE from Berlin open the evening with a mix of alternative rock and post-hardcore that takes the fans by storm. Maria Lessing impresses with good clean vocals, which are sometimes suddenly interspersed with hard growls. A great performance that is received accordingly by those present.
Afterwards, jumping prodigy Lucas Woodland gives a taste of his skills. In addition to his vocal parts, the frontman of the British post-hardcore band HOLDING ABSENCE impresses with his powerful jumps, which convey a little of the energy that is brought to the stage here. A brilliant concert that is met with general approval.
Be careful when setting off: ELECTRIC CALLBOY start the TEKKNO train
As befits a production of this size, the break for changeovers that follows gives a clear view of a powerful LED wall that will play a key role in the rest of the evening. It should already be noted here that the lighting technicians use this wall perfectly and thus visualize the music harmoniously without overpowering the background. A big compliment at this point! The fans count down the countdown to the start of the TEKKNO train deafeningly, the starting shot is fired in the form of a confetti cannon, the ammunition of which whirls through the air for minutes and creates stark lighting effects. As the show progresses, ELECTRIC CALLBOY deliver a show that reels off all of the band's hits like an assembly line, orchestrated by perfectly placed lighting effects from the LED wall, onto which, in addition to video clips and color explosions, the main actors are occasionally projected.
The announcements by shouter Kevin Ratajczak are often drowned out by the cheers of the crowd, but the evening's motto remains in the ears: "Today the brain is switched off. You have the day off tomorrow, so let's really party today," which is probably followed by the majority of the audience on this Friday evening. ELECTRIC CALLBOY also don't skimp on pyrotechnics and don't just set off the proverbial fireworks this evening. In the middle of the show, drummer David Friedrich makes his big appearance and hammers a powerful solo on the drums.
Acoustic part and gold record
In "Fuckboi" there is also a reunion with Maria Lessing from FUTURE PALACE, who once again pulls out all the stops here. But ELECTRIC CALLBOBOY also master the quiet tones, because in addition to the band's high-energy songs, disco fox excursions in "Hurrikan" are also popular with standard dancers in the specially organized mosh pits, now declared as dance floors. Another highlight is the acoustic part, which begins with GEORGE MICHAEL's "Careless Whisper" and ends with the TAKE THAT classic "I Want It That Way". Great cinema on a red grand piano.
To round things off, there are two numbers that are "on the top" again: "Parasite" and "MC Thunder", which form the last entries on the set list. After minutes of ovations, ELECTRIC CALLBOY come back for two encores. During the second encore, there is also a real surprise for the band, who receive a gold record for "Hypa Hypa". The rest is tumult and ruckus, and ELECTRIC CALLBOY enjoy the deserved ovations for "Vamos A La Playa" from the tape.
CONCLUSION: You can't do much better than that. ELECTRIC CALLBOY presented a show in the sold-out LANXESS ARENA that was very close to perfection. A concert evening that was able to present even die-hard fans with facets of a band that they had never seen before. If you haven't seen this show yet, you should try to get one of the few remaining tickets. It's worth it.

ELECTRIC CALLBOY liefern in der ausverkauften LANXESS Arena Köln zwischen Disco-Fox und Metalcore den ultimativen Abriss. FUTURE PALACE und HOLDING ABSENCE überzeugen im Vorprogramm
Bereits vor der Show hatten die Jungs aus Castrop-Rauxel Grund zum Feiern: der Veranstalter meldet mit 9000 Zuschauern ausverkauft, der somit obligatorische LANXESS ARENA-Award, geht an ELECTRIC CALLBOY und unterstreicht die derzeitige Ausnahmestellung der Band, die vor über 13 Jahren auf Stadtfesten und Euro-Paletten erste Gehversuche in Sachen kommerzieller Unterhaltung machte. Die Wenigsten hätten damals wohl vermutet, wie kometenhaft der Aufstieg in schwindelerregende Höhen gelingen würde. Die TEKKNO-Tour, die durch 28 europäische Metropolen führt, ist fast komplett ausverkauft und markiert den bisherigen Karrierehöhepunkt. Nach der Festivalsaison führt der Tourtross dann über Großbritannien, die USA bis hin nach Down Under, ein Parforceritt, der sicher noch nicht das Ende der Fahnenstange markiert, gerade auch angesichts des heutigen Abends, doch dazu später mehr.
FUTURE PALACE und HOLDING ABSENCE eröffnen prächtig
Der Abend beginnt, wie es sich für eine Party dieser Größenordnung gehört, mit zwei interessanten Einpeitschern. FUTURE PALACE aus Berlin eröffnen den Abend mit einem Mix aus Alternative Rock und Post-Hardcore, der die Fans im Sturm nimmt. Maria Lessing besticht durch guten Cleangesang, der teilweise unvermittelt von harten Growls durchzogen wird. Ein toller Auftritt, der von den Anwesenden entsprechen quittiert wird.
Im Anschluss gibt Sprungwunder Lucas Woodland Kostproben seines Könnens. Neben seinen Gesangsparts gefällt der Frontmann der britischen Post-Hardcore Band HOLDING ABSENCE durch mächtige Sprünge, die ein wenig von der Energie vermitteln, die hier auf die Bühnenbretter gebracht wird. Ein fulminantes Konzert, das allgemeine Zustimmung erfährt.
Vorsicht bei der Abfahrt: ELECTRIC CALLBOY starten den TEKKNO-Train
Wie es sich für eine Produktion dieser Größenordnung gehört, gibt die nun folgende Umbaupause den Blick frei auf eine mächtige LED-Wall, die im weiteren Verlauf des Abends eine tragende Rolle spielen wird. Hier sei bereits angemerkt, dass die Lichttechniker diese Wall perfekt einsetzen und so die Musik stimmig visualisieren, ohne den Hintergrund zu übersteuern. Ein großes Lob an dieser Stelle! Der Countdown zum Start des TEKKNO-Trains wird von den Fans ohrenbetäubend heruntergezählt, der Startschuss fällt in Form einer Konfetti-Kanone, deren Munition noch minutenlang durch die Luft wirbelt und für krasse Lichteffekte sorgt. Im weiteren Verlauf liefern ELECTRIC CALLBOY eine Show ab, die alle Hits der Band wie am Fließband abspult, orchestriert durch perfekt platzierte Lichteffekte der LED-Wall, auf die neben Video-Einspielern und Farbexplosionen ab und an auch die Hauptakteure projiziert werden.
Die Ansagen von Shouter Kevin Ratajczak gehen des Öfteren im Jubel der Menge unter, im Ohr bleibt allerdings die Marschroute des Abends, die da lautet: „Heute wird das Hirn ausgeknipst. Morgen habt ihr frei, also lasst uns heute richtig einen drauf machen“, was an diesem Freitagabend wohl von der überwiegenden Mehrheit des Publikums befolgt wird. ELECTRIC CALLBOY lassen sich zudem auch in Sachen Pyrotechnik nicht lumpen und brennen an diesem Abend nicht nur das sprichwörtliche Feuerwerk ab. Zur Mitte der Show hat Drummer David Friedrich seinen großen Auftritt und hämmert ein mächtiges Solo auf die Felle.
Akustic-Part und goldene Schallplatte
Bei „Fuckboi“ gibt es zudem ein Wiedersehen mit Maria Lessing von FUTURE PALACE, die hier nochmals alle Register ihres Könnens zieht. Aber ELECTRIC CALLBOBOY beherrschen auch die ruhigen Töne, denn neben den High-Energy Songs der Band gefallen auch Disco-Fox Ausflüge bei „Hurrikan“ mit Standard-Tänzern in den eigens dafür organisierten Moshpits, nun als Tanzflächen deklariert. Ein weiteres Highlight ist der Akustic-Part, der mit GEORGE MICHAELs „Careless Whisper“ beginnt und mit dem TAKE THAT Klassiker „ I Want It That Way“ endet. Großes Kino auf rotem Flügel.
Zum krachenden Abschluss gibt es mit „Parasite“ und „MC Thunder“ wieder zwei Nummern der Marke „auf die Zwölf“, die die letzten Einträge der Setlist bilden. Nach minutenlangen Ovationen kommen ELECTRIC CALLBOY für zwei Zugaben zurück. Während der zweiten Zugabe gibt es zudem eine echte Überraschung für die Band, die eine golden Schallplatte für „Hypa Hypa“ entgegennehmen darf. Der Rest ist Tumult und Remmidemmi und zu „Vamos A La Playa“ vom Band genießen ELECTRIC CALLBOY die verdienten Ovationen.
FAZIT: Viel besser kann man das nicht machen. ELECTRIC CALLBOY präsentieren in der ausverkauften LANXESS ARENA eine Show, die ganz nah an der Perfektion ist. Ein Konzertabend, der selbst eingefleischten Fans Facetten einer Band präsentieren konnte, die man so bisher noch nicht gesehen hatte. Wer diese Show noch nicht erlebt hat, sollte versuchen, eines der wenigen Resttickets zu ergattern. Es lohnt sich.
