When ELECTRIC CALLBOY invite you to the ESCALATION-FEST, the run on the coveted tickets begins immediately, which also meant that this year's edition meant that the Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen was able to announce "sold out" shortly after advance sales began. On this sunny winter day, in addition to the main actors from Castrop-Rauxel, BAD LOVERZ, CALLEJON, AS ERVERYTHING UNFOLDS, H-BLOCKS and LANDMVRKS make up the illustrious billing, and WACKEN mascot MAMBO KURT plays on an open-air stage in front of the hall during the breaks.

In front of the hall, in addition to the official merchandise, there are specially set up catering stands that expand the culinary offering of the Rudolf Weber-Arena with deliciously fragrant specialties. The musical kick-off will be given by the Brits from AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS, who are in great shape after the death of their drummer in August 2024 and the subsequent inevitable reorganization and have the hall firmly under control from the first minute of the show. "Ultraviolet" and "On The Inside" show the band playing with great joy, which feeds the hope of a speedy return. After a short changeover, PRO7 presenter Sebastian Pufpaff announces the next highlight: According to legend, BAD LOVERZ are on stage together again today for the first time since the 1980s. The stage setup alone shows that this is a tribute to the great times of glam rock, including a Baywatch buoy as a prop.

The two pole dance poles are then taken over by two dancers who provide additional eye-catchers during the show. But then they are there: BAD LOVERZ, almost directly from the Sunset Strip to the arena stage - but wait - with bagpipes and hurdy-gurdy? On stage here in a perfectly kitschy glam rock outfit are SALTATIO MORTIS, who insisted on honoring the ESCALATION festival with a homage to the great era of rock music. Alea shines in skin-tight leather pants held together by bright pink cords with perfect poses that Jon Bon Jovi could not have done better in 1985. The ROXETTE classic "The Look" is the start of a wild ride back to what is probably the most formative period in music history, when million-selling songs were released every week. The fact that the hall is having a lot of fun and is correspondingly enthusiastic shows the versatility of the ESCALATION festival, which this year also shines with a wide range of great performers. "Hangover", "Major Tom" and "Livin' On A Prayer" ensure an incredible party atmosphere before BAD LOVERZ then close the deal with "Angels" by Robbie Williams.

Afterwards there is the opportunity to explore the culinary variety and organize a refreshment. In addition, MAMBO KURT, the full-time WACKEN mascot, plays in front of the arena during the break between set changes. Kurt, as always armed only with a home organ and party lights, creates a great atmosphere among the many fans who uninhibitedly celebrate every performance of the solo entertainer. You simply have to see it.

Back in the hall, representatives of harder music are on the program with CALLEJON, who, after the introduction by Sebastian Pufpaff (“they tear down every hall”), prove themselves worthy of the advance praise and let loose with concentrated power and anger. “Schrei nach Liebe” by Die Ärzte is just as important here as “Porn From Spain 2”, with which the guys end the brilliant show. After that, there will be a reunion with the H-BLOCKX, who can finally be seen live again after a long absence. The upcoming tour in the fall should be able to mobilize all fans of the Münster institution, although the attempt by PRO7 man Pufpaff to sing "Rising High" with the hall unfortunately fails. But shortly after the gig begins, the ice is broken and the hall celebrates the men around Henning Wehland and bass player Stephan "Gudze" Hinz, who is responsible for the exalted posing. When the hit "Rising High" comes on, even the sing-along part works as if it had been rehearsed and illustrates the timelessness of what is probably the band's biggest hit, who then bid farewell to the roaring crowd with the SNAP! cover "Power" and "Ring Of Fire", which became a worldwide hit in the JOHNNY CASH version. Next up are LANDMVRKS, who made the trip from Marseille to Oberhausen to take the escalation to new heights. Frontman Florent Salfati is visibly moved as he absorbs the reaction of the hall after the opener "Creature". The guys from the French metropolis then celebrate a great mix of different styles, ranging from thunderous metalcore to hardcore punk to pop-like punk rock. "Suffocate" starts off as an acoustic ballad before the band launches into the song with vehemence. A real highlight that prompts presenter Pufpaff to confess that he had not known the band before, but is now a new fan.

After many hard-working helpers have prepared the stage, things can now continue with ELECTRIC CALLBOY and the crowning finale of the festival. As befits a production of this size, there is a powerful LED wall behind the stage, which will play a key role in the rest of the evening. It should be noted here that the lighting technicians use this wall perfectly and thus visualize the music harmoniously without overpowering the background in terms of its brightness. A big compliment at this point! The fans count down the countdown to the start of the TEKKNO train deafeningly, the starting shot is fired in the form of a confetti cannon, the ammunition of which whirls through the air for minutes and creates amazing lighting effects. The announcements by shouter Kevin Ratajczak are often drowned out by the cheers of the crowd, but one message remains in the back of the mind: tonight is something very special for the band, as family and friends can attend the party. After all, this is already the third ESCALATION festival, which will be continued next year. ELECTRIC CALLBOY also don't skimp on pyrotechnics and don't just set off the proverbial fireworks this evening. In the middle of the show, drummer David Friedrich makes his big entrance and hammers a powerful solo on the drums.

Acoustic part: ELECTRIC CALLBOY in top form

In “Fuckboi” there is a reunion with Charlie Rolfe from AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS, who once again pulls out all the stops. But ELECTRIC CALLBOBOY also master the quiet tones, because in addition to the band's high-energy songs, disco fox excursions in “Hurrikan” with standard dancers in the specially organized Wall of Death or the acoustic part, which is celebrated that evening in the midst of the fans. The great version of the TOKIO HOTEL hit “Durch den Monsun” in particular sticks in your head, followed by the ELTON JOHN classic “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”. Great cinema on a red grand piano.

The final entries on the setlist are "Ratatata", "Tekkno Train" and "We Got The Moves". ELECTRIC CALLBOY enjoy the well-deserved ovations of the fans in the arena to the accompaniment of "Vamos A La Playa", who are then happily released into the icy night. Wenn ELECTRIC CALLBOY zum ESCALATION-FEST bitten, setzt der Run auf die begehrten Tickets augenblicklich ein, was auch bei der diesjährigen Auflage dazu führte, dass die Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen bereits kurz nach Vorverkaufsstart „ausverkauft“ vermelden konnte. An diesem sonnigen Wintertag bilden neben den Hauptakteuren aus Castrop-Rauxel BAD LOVERZ, CALLEJON, AS ERVERYTHING UNFOLDS, H-BLOCKS, sowie LANDMVRKS das illustre Billing, dazu spielt WACKEN-Maskottchen MAMBO KURT jeweils in den Umbaupausen vor der Halle auf einer Freiluftbühne.

Vor der Halle gibt es neben dem offiziellen Merch eigens aufgebaute Gastro-Stände, die das kulinarische Angebot der Rudolf Weber-Arena um köstlich duftende Spezialitäten erweitern. Den musikalischen Anfang machen die Briten von AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS, die sich nach dem Tod ihres Drummers im August 2024 und der daraufhin zwangsläufigen Neuformierung bestens aufgestellt zeigen und ab der ersten Minute der Show die Halle fest im Griff haben. „Ultraviolet“ oder „On The Inside“ zeigen die Band in toller Spielfreude, was die Hoffnung auf eine baldige Wiederkehr nährt. Nach kurzem Umbau kündigt PRO7-Moderator Sebastian Pufpaff das nächste Highlight an: BAD LOVERZ stehen heute der Legende nach zum ersten mal seit den 1980er Jahren wieder gemeinsam auf der Bühne. Schon der Bühnenaufbau lässt erkennen, dass hier den großen Zeiten des Glamrocks gehuldigt werden soll, Baywatch-Schwimmboje als Requisite inklusive.

Die beiden Pole-Dance-Stangen werden in der Folge von zwei Tänzerinnen in Beschlag genommen, die während der Show für zusätzliche Hingucker sorgen. Dann aber sind sie da: BAD LOVERZ, quasi direkt vom Sunset-Strip auf die Bühne der Arena – doch halt – mit Dudelsack und Drehleier? Auf der Bühne stehen hier in perfekt-kitschigem Glamrock-Outfit SALTATIO MORTIS, die es sich nicht haben nehmen lassen, das ESCALATION-Fest mit einer Hommage an die große Zeit der Rockmusik zu beehren. Alea glänzt in hautenger Lederhose, die durch quitschpinke Schnüre zusammengehalten wird mit perfekten Posings, die Jon Bon Jovi Anno 1985 nicht besser hätte hinbekommen. Der ROXETTE-Klassiker „The Look“ ist der Auftakt zu einem wilden Ritt zurück in die wohl prägenste Zeit der Musikgeschichte, in der Millionenseller im Wochentakt veröffentlicht wurden. Dass die Halle hier mächtig Spaß hat und entsprechend frenetisch mitgeht, zeigt die Vielseitigkeit des ESCALATION-Fests, das auch in diesem Jahr durch ein breitgefächertes Spektrum toller Akteure glänzt. „Hangover“, „Major Tom“ oder „Livin´ On A Prayer“ sorgen für eine unglaubliche Partystimmung, bevor die BAD LOVERZ dann mit „Angels“ von Robbie Williams den Sack zumachen.

Danach gibt es Gelegenheit, die kulinarische Vielfalt zu erkunden und sich eine Erfrischung zu organisieren. Zudem spielt vor der Arena jeweils in den Umbaupausen mit MAMBO KURT das hauptamtliche WACKEN-Maskottchen. Kurt, wie immer nur mit Heimorgel und Partylicht bewaffnet, sorgt für grandiose Stimmung unter den vielen Fans, die hier hemmungslos jeden Auftritt des Alleinunterhalters abfeiern. Muss man einfach gesehen haben.

Wieder in der Halle stehen mit CALLEJON Vertreter der härteren Mucke auf dem Spielplan, die nach der Anmoderation durch Sebastian Pufpaff („die reißen jede Halle ab“) sich der Vorschusslorbeeren würdig erweisen und mit geballter Power und Wut vom Leder ziehen. „Schrei nach Liebe“ von den Ärzten darf hier ebenso wenig fehlen wie „Porn From Spain 2“ mit dem die Jungs die fulminante Show beenden. Danach gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit den H-BLOCKX, die nach längerer Abstinenz endlich wieder einmal live zu sehen sind. Die im Herbst anstehende Tour sollte alle Fans der Münsteraner Institution mobilisieren können, obgleich der Versuch des PRO7-Mannes Pufpaff, mit der Halle „Rising High“ zu singen, leider misslingt. Aber schon kurz nach Beginn des Gigs ist das Eis gebrochen und die Halle feiert die Männer um Henning Wehland und Bassmann Stephan „Gudze“ Hinz, der für die exaltierten Posings verantwortlich zeichnet. Als dann der Hit „Rising High“ ansteht, gelingt selbst der Sing-Along Part wie geprobt und verdeutlicht die Zeitlosigkeit des wohl größten Hits der Band, die sich dann mit dem SNAP!-Cover „Power“, sowie „Ring Of Fire“, der in der JOHNNY CASH-Version zum Welthit wurde, von der tosenden Meute verabschieden. Tickets für die im Herbst anstehende „Fillin The Blank Tour“ gibt es hier.

Weiter geht es mit LANDMVRKS, die es sich nicht haben nehmen lassen, eigens aus Marseille nach Oberhausen zu reisen, um hier die Eskalation in neue Sphären zu treiben. Frontmann Florent Salfati ist sichtlich bewegt, als er die Reaktion der Halle nach dem Opener „Creature“ in sich aufsaugt. In der Folge zelebrieren die Jungs aus der französischen Metropole einen tollen Mix verschiedener Stilrichtungen, die von krachendem Metalcore über Hardcore Punk bis hin zu poppig anmutenden Punk Rock reicht. „Suffocate“ startet zunächst als Akustik-Ballade, bevor die Band dann mit Vehemenz in den Song einsteigt. Ein echtes Highlight, das Moderator Pufpaff das Geständnis abringt, die Band vorher nicht gekannt zu haben, nun aber ein neuer Fan zu sein.

Nachdem viele fleißige Helfer die Bühne hergerichtet haben, kann es nun mit ELECTRIC CALLBOY und dem krönenden Abschluss des Festival weitergehen. Wie es sich für eine Produktion dieser Größenordnung gehört, zeigt sich hinter der Bühne eine mächtige LED-Wall, die im weiteren Verlauf des Abends eine tragende Rolle spielen wird. Hier sei bereits angemerkt, dass die Lichttechniker diese Wall perfekt einsetzen und so die Musik stimmig visualisieren, ohne den Hintergrund in Bezug auf deren Helligkeit zu übersteuern. Ein großes Lob an dieser Stelle! Der Countdown zum Start des TEKKNO-Trains wird von den Fans ohrenbetäubend heruntergezählt, der Startschuss fällt in Form einer Konfetti-Kanone, deren Munition noch minutenlang durch die Luft wirbelt und für krasse Lichteffekte sorgt. Im weiteren Verlauf liefern ELECTRIC CALLBOY eine Show ab, die alle Hits der Band wie am Fließband abspult, orchestriert durch perfekt platzierte Lichteffekte der LED-Wall, auf die neben Video-Einspielern und Farbexplosionen ab und an auch die Hauptakteure projiziert werden.

Die Ansagen von Shouter Kevin Ratajczak gehen des Öfteren im Jubel der Menge unter, eine Botschaft bleibt allerdings im Hinterkopf: Der heutige Abend ist für die Band etwas ganz besonderes, da Familie und Freunde der Party beiwohnen können. Es ist immerhin schon das dritte ESCALATION-Fest, das im kommenden Jahr seine Fortsetzung finden wird. ELECTRIC CALLBOY lassen sich zudem auch in Sachen Pyrotechnik nicht lumpen und brennen an diesem Abend nicht nur das sprichwörtliche Feuerwerk ab. Zur Mitte der Show hat Drummer David Friedrich seinen großen Auftritt und hämmert ein mächtiges Solo auf die Felle.

Akustic-Part: ELECTRIC CALLBOY in Höchstform

Bei „Fuckboi“ gibt es ein Wiedersehen mit Charlie Rolfe von AS EVERYTHING UNFOLDS, die hier nochmals alle Register ihres Könnens zieht. Aber ELECTRIC CALLBOBOY beherrschen auch die ruhigen Töne, denn neben den High-Energy Songs der Band gefallen auch Disco-Fox Ausflüge bei „Hurrikan“ mit Standard-Tänzern in der eigens dafür organisierten Wall of Death oder der Akustik-Part, der an diesem Abend inmitten der Fans zelebriert wird. Hier bleibt vor allem die tolle Version des TOKIO HOTEL-Hits „Durch den Monsun“ im Ohr, gefolgt vom ELTON JOHN-Klassiker „Can You Feel The Love Tonight“. Großes Kino auf rotem Flügel.

Zum krachenden Abschluss gibt es mit „Ratatata“, „Tekkno Train“ und „We Got The Moves“ die letzten Einträge der Setlist. Zu „Vamos A La Playa“ vom Band genießen ELECTRIC CALLBOY die verdienten Ovationen der Fans in der Arena, die im Anschluss glücklich in die eisige Nacht entlassen werden.
