When ADAM LAMBERT is not touring around the world with Brian May and Roger Taylor, the two remaining founding members of the cult band QUEEN, he sometimes finds time to push forward his own projects. The album "High Drama", released in February, should therefore be presented live to at least a select group of interested fans. The exclusive German concert is one of the few concerts on a tour that Adam Lambert was able to fit into his tightly packed schedule. Unfortunately, there is no merch for his fans in Cologne that evening, what a pity.

ANICA RUSSO doesn't get a photo...
The evening starts with the support act ANICA RUSSO, who is not allowed to be photographed, which causes the assembled press representatives to shake their heads collectively.

The star of the evening doesn't need to be asked twice and enters the stage in a glittery robe with black sunglasses (which disappear into the props after one song). The message is clear and comes across with vehemence and the right attitude: "For Your Entertainment" is more than just the show opener, it is the mission that ADAM LAMBERT has committed himself to and that he lives with every fiber of his being: "I am here for your entertainment"!
What follows is a firework display of hits in perfect sound with magnificent vocal performances that hardly any other singer is able to deliver with such precision. Lambert does it all with a smile on his face, without the slightest effort. "Sex On Fire", "Holding Out For A Hero" and "I Can't Stand The Rain" from the current album "High Drama" come out of the PA in CD quality, although you can tell from Lambert's phrasing that it is all "live" and not recorded. The great band that Lambert introduces later on does the rest. During the introduction round, all musicians even have the opportunity to play a little solo.

It works without Auto-Tune
After CULTURE CLUB's "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" there is a great version of the CHER classic "Believe", whereby Lambert dispenses with the annoying Auto-Tune effect and thus gives the number more edge. After "You Make Me Feel", Lambert and the band first leave the stage, the encore part is then performed with four QUEEN hits: With "Don't Stop Me Now", "Another One Bites The Dust", "Stone Cold Crazy" and "We Are The Champions", Adam Lambert once again emphatically demonstrates why he is the rightful heir to the throne of the incomparable Freddie Mercury at QUEEN.
CONCLUSION: ADAM LAMBERT thrilled fans at the Palladium Cologne at the only German concert of his "High Drama" tour. Anyone who has the chance to see Lambert with or without May and Taylor should not hesitate for a second and listen to and watch what is probably the best rock singer of the moment. It doesn't get much better than that.

Wenn ADAM LAMBERT nicht gerade mit Brian May und Roger Taylor, den beiden verbliebenen Gründungsmitgliedern der Kult-Band QUEEN auf Tour rund um die Welt ist, findet er mitunter noch Zeit, eigene Projekte voranzutreiben. Das im Februar erschienene Album „High Drama“ sollte somit wenigstens einem erlesenen Kreis interessierter Fans auch live präsentiert werden. Das exklusive Deutschland-Konzert ist eines der wenigen Konzerte einer Tour, die Adam Lambert noch in seinem dicht gepackten Terminkalender unterbringen konnte. Leider gibt es für seine Fans in Köln an diesem Abend kein Merch, schade.

Gestartet wird der Abend mit dem Support-Act ANICA RUSSO, der allerdings nicht fotografiert werden darf, was bei den versammelten Pressevertretern für kollektives Kopfschütteln sorgt.

Der Star des Abends lässt sich im Anschluss nicht lange bitten und betritt in Glitzerrobe mit schwarzer Sonnenbrille (die nach einem Song wieder in der Requisite verschwindet) die Bühne. Die Botschaft ist klar und kommt mit Vehemenz und passender Attitüde daher: „For Your Entertainment“ ist mehr als nur der Opener der Show, es ist die Mission, der sich ADAM LAMBERT verschrieben hat, die er mit jeder Faser seiner Existenz lebt: „I am here for your entertainment“!
Was folgt, ist ein Feuerwerk an Hits in perfektem Sound mit grandiosen Gesangsleistungen, die kaum ein anderer Sänger in dieser Präzision zu liefern im Stande ist. Lambert macht das alles mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht, ohne die leiseste Anstrengung. „Sex On Fire“, „Holding Out For A Hero“ oder „I Can´t Stand The Rain“ vom aktuellen Album „High Drama“ kommen in CD-Qualität aus der PA, wobei man an den Phrasierungen Lamberts erkennen kann, dass es eben doch alles „live“ ist und nicht von Konserve kommt. Die tolle Band, die Lambert in weiteren Verlauf vorstellt, tut ein Übriges. Während der Vorstellungsrunde haben alle Musiker sogar die Gelegenheit, ein kleines Solo zu spielen.
Es geht auch ohne Auto-Tune
Nach CULTURE CLUBs „Do You Really Want To Hurt Me“ gibt es eine grandiose Version des CHER-Klassikers „Believe“, wobei Lambert hier auf den Einsatz des nervigen Auto-Tune-Effekts verzichtet und der Nummer so mehr Ecken verleiht. Nach „You Make Me Feel“ gehen Lambert und Band zunächst von der Bühne, der Zugabenteil wird dann mit vier QUEEN Hits bestritten: Mit „Don´t Stop Me Now“, „Another One Bites The Dust“, „Stone Cold Crazy“ und „We Are The Champions“ demonstriert Adam Lambert nochmals nachdrücklich, warum er der rechtmäßige Thronfolger des unvergleichlichen Freddie Mercury bei QUEEN ist.
FAZIT: ADAM LAMBERT begeistert die Fans im Palladium Köln beim einzigen Deutschland-Konzert seiner „High Drama“-Tour. Wer die Möglichkeit hat, Lambert mit oder ohne May und Taylor zu sehen, sollte keine Sekunde zögern und sich den wohl zur Zeit besten Rock-Sänger anhören und anschauen. Besser geht es kaum.
