The SCORPIONS are stopping off at the Westfalenhalle Dortmund as part of their Rock Believer World Tour. THUNDEMOTHER with a new line-up opens the evening
When Klaus Meine and his SCORPIONS ask for an audience, the loyal rock believers don't need to be asked twice. And that was the case on this sunny Sunday evening. Long before the "doors" of the Westfalenhalle open, fans from all over Germany and neighboring countries arrive, a fact that can easily be seen from the license plates. It is probably well known that the tour was already planned for 2020 and had to be postponed several times.
THUNDERMOTHER rock with a new line-up
While the guys around Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker have been traveling the world with the same line-up for years, THUNDERMOTHER opens the show with a completely different line-up. Only Filippa Nässil on guitar is still part of the band as the boss, the three new thunder mothers are Linnéa Vikström (vocals), Majsan Lindberg (bass, was already part of the band until 2019), and Joan Massing (drums). Compared to their WACKEN performance last year, there is a lot more going on on stage, all four ladies are extremely motivated and heat up the fans in the hall from the first minute. Hits like "Shoot To Kill" or "Watch Out" are brought to the stage energetically, after 40 great minutes it's over after "Driving In Style" and the job is done perfectly.
SCORPIONS still have plenty of gas in the tank
While the Donnermütter gig is still being discussed lively in the foyer of the Westfalenhalle, the stage is being rebuilt for the main act of the evening behind two curtains that fall when the show begins. Behind the Scorpions logo, the banner with the inscription "Are You Ready To Rock" appears for several seconds, a question that can probably only be seen as a rhetorical device this evening. But then they are there: in addition to Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitar), Matthias Jabs (guitar), Mikkey Dee (drums) and Pawel Mciwoda (bass) take up the instruments this evening. The opener makes it immediately clear that the band is in top form this evening.
Klaus Meine, who will celebrate his 75th birthday next Thursday, still hops around the stage like a youngster, while his colleagues are in no way inferior to him, especially Rudolf Schenker, who is ready for any pose. The sound is crystal clear and is perfectly illustrated by the LED walls in the background with video clips or the images captured by several cameramen. By the time the classic "Make It Real" is played, it is clear to everyone present that the SCORPIONS are far from being old hat. "Peacemaker" from the current album is further proof that the band is neither fed up nor burned out.
"Wind Of Change" Ukraine version
The mega hit "Wind Of Change" is presented in the version specially rewritten for Ukraine, the line "Now listen to my heart / It says Ukrainia / Waiting for the wind to change" is projected over the LED wall and is very well received in the hall. Klaus Meine stated in a ZEIT interview at the time: "I just couldn't imagine singing Wind Of Change the way we've always sung it. It's just not right, it's not the time to romanticize Russia." There's nothing to add to that.
SCORPIONS: Rock You Like A Hurricane is still on the agenda
After that, things get much rockier again. “Tease Me Please Me” and “Rock Believer”, the title track of the current album, set the tone for party mode again before the SCORPIONS leave the stage with the two mega hits “Blackout” and “Big City Nights”. Anyone who was still in their seats at this point will have now gotten up to join the chorus of fans calling for an encore. Of course, the request is heeded. After a great version of “Still Loving You” and the all-time classic “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, the SCORPIONS leave the stage to thunderous applause.
CONCLUSION: Even after more than 50 (!) years on stage, the SCORPIONS have enough gas in the tank to keep the newcomers at bay. The “Rock Believer World Tour” will take the SCORPIONS through Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain and Portugal in the coming weeks. Our recommendation: Go and join in the celebration!

Die SCORPIONS machen im Rahmen ihrer Rock Believer World Tour Station in der Westfalenhalle Dortmund. THUNDEMOTHER in neuer Besetzung eröffnen den Abend
Wenn Klaus Meine und seine SCORPIONS zur Audienz bitten, lassen sich die getreuen Rockbelievers nicht lange bitten. So auch an diesem sonnigen Sonntagabend. Bereits lange bevor die „Doors“ der Westfalenhalle sich öffnen, trudeln Fans aus der gesamten Republik und dem benachbarten Ausland ein, eine Tatsache, die man unschwer an den Autokennzeichen ablesen kann. Dass die Tour bereits für das Jahr 2020 geplant war und mehrfach verschoben werden musste, dürfte bekannt sein.
THUNDERMOTHER rocken in neuer Besetzung
Während die Jungs um Klaus Meine und Rudolf Schenker seit Jahren in gleicher Besetzung die Welt bereisen, eröffnen THUNDERMOTHER in komplett veränderter Besetzung die Show. Allein Filippa Nässil an der Gitarre ist als Chefin noch mit von der Partie, die drei neuen Donnermütter sind Linnéa Vikström (Gesang), Majsan Lindberg (Bass, war bereits bis 2019 Teil der Band), sowie Joan Massing (Schlagzeug). Im Vergleich zu ihrem WACKEN-Auftritt im vergangenen Jahr passiert auf der Bühne deutlich mehr, alle vier Damen geben sich enorm motiviert und heizen den Fans in der Halle ab der ersten Minute ein. Hits wie „Shoot To Kill“ oder „Watch Out“ werden energetisch auf die Bühne gebracht, nach 40 tollen Minuten ist dann nach „Driving In Style“ Schluss und der Job bestens erledigt.
SCORPIONS haben noch reichlich Gas im Tank
Während der Gig der Donnermütter im Foyer der Westfalenhalle noch lebhaft diskutiert wird, erfolgt der Umbau der Bühne für den Hauptact des Abends hinter zwei Vorhängen, die mit Beginn der Show fallen. Hinter dem Scorpions-Logo erscheint für mehrere Sekunden das Banner mit der Aufschrift „Are You Ready To Rock“, eine Frage, die an diesem Abend wohl allenfalls als rhetorisches Stilmittel gesehen werden kann. Dann aber sind sie da: neben Klaus Meine (Gesang) greifen an diesem Abend Rudolf Schenker (Gitarre), Matthias Jabs (Gitarre), Mikkey Dee (Schlagzeug) und Pawel Mciwoda (Bass) zu den Instrumenten. Der Opener macht direkt deutlich, dass die Band sich an diesem Abend in Topform befindet.
Klaus Meine, der am kommenden Donnerstag seinen 75. Geburtstag feiern wird, hüpft immer noch wie ein Jungspund über die Bühne, während seine Kollegen ihm in nichts nachstehen, allen voran Rudolf Schenker, der zu jeder Pose bereit ist. Der Sound ist glasklar und wird von den LED-Walls im Hintergrund mit Videoeinspielern oder den Bildern, die mehrere Kameraleute einfangen, perfekt illustriert. Spätestens beim Klassiker „Make It Real“ ist allen Anwesenden klar, dass die SCORPIONS noch lange nicht zum alten Eisen gehören. „Peacemaker“ vom aktuellen Album ist ein weiterer Beweis, dass die Band weder satt noch ausgebrannt ist.
„Wind Of Change“ in der Ukraine-Version
Der Mega Hit „Wind Of Change“ wird in der eigens für die Ukraine umgeschriebenen Version präsentiert, die Textzeile „Now listen to my heart / It says Ukrainia / Waiting for the wind to change" wird über die LED Wall projiziert und findet in der Halle großen Anklang. Klaus Meine gab seinerzeit in einem ZEIT-Interview zu Protokoll: „Wind Of Change so zu singen, wie wir es immer gesungen haben, das konnte ich mir einfach nicht vorstellen. Es ist einfach nicht richtig, es ist nicht die Zeit, um Russland zu romantisieren." Dem ist nichts hinzuzufügen.
SCORPIONS: Rock You Like A Hurricane ist immer noch Programm
Danach geht es wieder deutlich rockiger zur Sache. „Tease Me Please Me“ und „Rock Believer“, der Titel-Track des aktuellen Albums, stellen die Zeichen wieder auf Partymodus, bevor die SCORPIONS mit den beiden Mega-Hits „Blackout“ und „Big City Nights“ von der Bühne gehen. Wen es zu diesem Zeitpunkt noch auf den Sitzen gehalten hat, ist spätestens jetzt aufgestanden, um in den Chor der nach Zugabe rufenden Fans mit einzusteigen. Der Forderung wird selbstverständlich Folge geleistet. Nach einer tollen Version von „Still Loving You“ und dem Allzeit-Klassiker „Rock You Like A Hurricane“ gehen die SCORPIONS unter donnerndem Applaus von der Bühne.
FAZIT: Die SCORPIONS haben auch nach mehr als 50 (!) Jahren auf der Bühne genügend Gas im Tank, die Nachrücker auf Abstand zu halten. Die „Rock Believer World Tour“ wird die SCORPIONS in den kommenden Wochen durch Deutschland, Frankreich, die Schweiz, Polen, Tschechien, Litauen, Serbien, Rumänien, Bulgarien, Spanien und Portugal führen. Unsere Empfehlung: Hingehen und mitfeiern!
